evermore Album Review

Hello Guardians! Today, I’ll be reviewing Taylor Swift’s second surprise album, evermore. Now, you may remember from my folklore review that I wasn’t really a fan of Tayor’s new style. Is that still true for evermore? Let’s find out.

To be honest, I took a really long to listen to all of these songs. In fact, one of the bonus tracks I still haven’t heard(I guess you guys can see my reaction to it here!).

This is also my first time listening to the album all the way through!

And then…a current ranking of TS albums because I like seeing how I think at different points of time.

  1. Red(will this ever change? Likely not)
  2. Lover
  3. reputation
  4. Speak Now
  5. evermore
  6. 1989
  7. Fearless
  8. folklore
  9. Taylor Swift

My rankings haven’t changed much since last time, but it seems different. I don’t really know why. *shrugs*

Let’s get into the songs!

(also, I listen to the clean versions, but just know that some of the songs are explicit!)

1. willow

I actually really like this one! I feel like it’s a really good choice for the lead single. I think that I prefer the dancing remix out of the versions released, but I do like the original too. The original one just gets a little bit repetitve at the end. 4.5/5 stars.

2. champagne problems

I love this one! It almost feels like All Too Well, which it’s no secret that that’s my favorite TS song. It has a lovely piano tune and the lyrics tell a story too. I think this song is great. I’ll go ahead and give it a 5/5.

3. gold rush

I think gold rush might be my favorite off of this album. It has the style of songs that I typically prefer. It just seems like more of a pop song. So, yeah, I really like the beat of this one. You can probably guess that this is a 5 star song to me.

4. ’tis the d*mn season

I don’t really know why, but this is a pretty catchy song! It’s not really my favorite by any means, but it isn’t bad. I’ll give it a…3/5?

5. tolerate it

This song is so hauntingly beautiful. I don’t really now how to describe it. It’s a lovely song, but it does kinda make you sad just by listening to it. I feel like it’s almost an alternate reality to Dear John… 4/5 stars.

6. no body, no crime

I listened to this one, absolutely sure I wouldn’t like it. I’m not really a fan of country songs, and this is one of the more country songs on evermore. But…wow. That’s a really good song. I like the storytelling. And it’s such a catchy tune! Do we have another 5 star?

7. happiness

I’m not super familiar with this song. I have only listened to it about twice, and I mean, I don’t feel particularly attached to it? I’m fine to not really listen to it. It’s not bad though, I’ll give it 2.5/5 stars.

8. dorothea

I love this one! It’s so catchy. I also have a friend who’s middle name is Dorothea,(you know who you are 🙂 I do really like this song. I don’t feel like it’s quite a 5 star though? Probably a 4.5 stars. It’s really catchy.

9. coney island

That begininng tune reminds me of something…

I like this one quite a bit. I think it’s a lovely collaboration piece. The tune is really nice. 3.5/5.

10. ivy

Okay, firstly, I don’t like how this song is kinda about cheating?

But, putting that aside, this is a very catchy song! I really like the tune of it and it has sort of a calming feel. So, it’s not completely bad. I think I’ll give it a 3 stars?

11. cowboy like me

Here’s another song that I thought I’d end up hating. Spoiler alert – I don’t.

I don’t know why I like this song so much. It’s just really peaceful and soft. I like the story(again…)

I’ll give it a 4.5/5 stars.

12. long story short

Here’s another one that’s more my style! I like this one, but I don’t just love it if you know what I mean. It sounds more like her older stuff, and that’s probably why I like it. 4/5 stars.

13. marjorie

This one is so sad. I just…hope that I never relate to this? If that makes sense. I like that Taylor wrote a tribute to her grandmother. I think this song is lovely, but I don’t really like listening to it most of the time because it’s so sad.

14. closure

This song sounds kind of like a mashup of different songs. It’s a very…particular style I guess. But, I suppose it works for me, because I like it! 3/5 stars.

15. evermore

The tune is pretty sweet. Taylor’s vocals sound great, but this is not the right song for a duet. It just…sounds wrong for some reason. I’d have preferred this to be a solo song. It’s just so chaotic at the end. For that alone, I have to know off some stars! 2.5/5.

16. right where you left me

This is the first time I’m hearing this one! It sounds a lot like the original Taylor from 2006, haha. I think I like it! I think I’ll give it a 3.5 star rating.

17. it’s time to go

Finally, we get to the last track. I don’t really have any strong feelings toward this one. I’ll give it a 3 star rating.

evermore’s album score = 75 /100

I don’t really know why I like evermore so much more than folklore, when really, they’re two very similar albums. I guess this is proof that I have very specific music tastes…

Phew, that took a little while. What do you think of evermore? Let me know! I’d love to chat about it in the comments!

  1. I really like Evermore. It isn’t my favorite album of hers, but I like it a lot. I think Willow might be my favorite song. Although, I have been starting to appreciate Folklore more lately. It just took a long time for me to warm up to the songs.
Great post. I love your music reviews.

    1. I agree. What is your favorite album of hers btw?
      Yes, Willow is amazing!
Really? I feel like ever since evermore came out, I haven’t listened to a single song off of folklore. It just isn’t my thing.

Thank you! I really appreciate that.

  2. I definitely have really similar opinions with you here for this album. 😛 The only difference is that I loved both bonus tracks and happiness. Some Taylor Swift songs I have to listen to over and over again then they just hit and become favorites, you know?

  3. I wasn’t a fan of Taylor Swift until folklore happened but I liked evermore more! I agree with you for the most part!! My favourites though were Marjorie, Tolerate it and Willow. I just listened to All Too Well and I can see why you like it, it’s a beautiful song. Amazing post, Diamond! You’re great at album reviews!

    1. Yes! evermore is superior to folklore in my book. Cool!
All Too Well is AMAZING. I can understand why it’s not everyone’s favorite song, but for me, (other than it’s amazingness), it holds so much nostalgia and that’s probably why it’s my favorite.

Thank you! I love doing album reviews.
