Reading a Friend’s Favorite (Reading Collab with Emma)

Hello Guardians! Today I have a really cool post for you. Basically, I’ve seen some people on YouTube reading books that their friends like or whatever. So, I had an idea! What if I exchange favorite books with one of my friends and we each chose one of the other’s favorites to read?

My awesome friend Emma agreed to do this with me. We have pretty similar tastes in reading, so a lot of our favorite’s already lined up. But you’ll see that in a minute.

For now, I’m going to take a moment to give a shout-out to Emma! She doesn’t have a blog(yet,) but she’s my very best friend! I don’t have a lot of friends outside of the blogosphere, but I know I can always count on her.

Maybe one day she’ll get a blog and then you guys can come to love her like I do…but I won’t pressure her too much…

Onto the reading! We exchanged 10 lists of favorites and reacted to them.

(Emma’s favorites will be in bold, my reactions in italic.)

Emma’s Favorites:

Harry Potter

I have read this one! I don’t really remember it, so  I’d like to reread it someday.

The Lunar Chronicles

This one is a favorite of mine. I love it when I recommend you books and they become a favorite!

Also a favorite of mine. It’s an incredible series.

Serafina and the Black Cloak is set in an Asheville ...

Serafina and the Black Cloak

I’ve heard of this, and it intrigues me. *adds to TBR*

Percy Jackson and the Olympians/Heroes of Olympus

I knew this one would be on your list ;). I have read the first book in the PJO series, and I’m eager to continue.

The Hunger Games

I like the Hunger Games a good deal. I wouldn’t say it’s one of my favorites, but I did have a great time reading it.

Cindy Reads A Lot: Counting By 7s (MMGM)

Counting by 7’s

I don’t actually know that much about this one. I may read it someday, but it’s also not just immediately calling to me.

Little Women - Alma Books

Little Women

This is the one I decided to read for this post. I’ll share my thoughts on it at the end of this post.

I think I read this one from your recommendation. It’s a really great series! Marissa Meyer is really talented.

The Keepers: The Box and the Dragonfly - Ted Sanders ...

I’m pretty sure I have this one on my TBR. But then again, that is a HUGE list.

Diamond’s Favorites:

(my favorites are in bold, Emma’s thoughts in italics.)

The Lunar Chronicles

This was one of the series you introduced me to, Diamond! It’s become one of my favorite series of all time, so thanks for recommending it!

This was another great recommendation by you. It’s such a good series (and waiting for the next book to come out is so so painful aaaaaa)

The Four Kingdoms

I’ve heard of this series once or twice, and it seems pretty cool!

Long May She Reign

This was the book I decided to read for this post, and it’s absolutely fantastic so far! I can’t wait to read some more!

This is on my TBR, and it sounds really good! My TBR list is getting kinda long though, so we’ll see when I actually read it though haha!

I’m pretty unfamiliar with Skyward, but from the title alone it sounds really cool.

I’ve honestly never heard of this one until now! It sounds interesting, though, so I’ll have to check it out!

The Stolen Kingdom

This is another on my TBR! I hope I can read it soon.

The Darkest Minds

Yet another series on my TBR after hearing about it from you! I’m excited to try it out!

I’ve only heard about Hunted a couple of times, but it seems pretty cool! The title is intriguing.

Our Thoughts:

Here is where we talked about the books we read! Like we mentioned, Emma chose Long May She Reign, and I chose Little Women. Now, did we like each other’s favorite books?

(My thoughts in italics, Emma’s in bold.)

I read Little Women because it was on Emma’s favorites list. For those who know anything about my reading tastes, I pretty much only read fantastical books. Little Women is a book about 4 regular girls as the grow up, and it’s a very realistic book. I probably wouldn’t have picked it up if not for this collab, but I’m so glad I did! I loved the character dynamics so much. I hope that one day I can write characters like the March sisters!

Long May She Reign was so so good!

I’ll be honest, I didn’t really care for Freya at first. She seemed kind of like the typical “not like other girls” protagonist in the beginning of the book, but as the story progressed she really grew on me and I ended up really loving her character. Freya – and all of the other characters – is very interesting and I love the development of how she sees herself, the kingdom, and the people around her throughout the story. Each character is complex and I loved learning about everyone and their different sides to the story. It was so cool! Also, I loved all the neat facts sprinkled in through the book. I now know more about both poisons and painting than I ever realized I wanted to!

There you have it folks, our reading tastes are pretty similar! I absolutely loved doing this collab with Emma, and I’m super thankful she agreed to do this with me!

Also, if you see this and want to do it with a friend, feel free to do so! Just link back to this post so I can see it. And…maybe I’d even turn this into a series and exchange lists with you guys if you’re interested!

Do you have similar reading tastes with friends?

  3. This was awesome! Super interesting–and I love the idea! Tragically most of my friends are into a lot of fiction and fantasy–which is great–but I hardly ever read any books from those genres. 😥😂 I loved this, though. Awesome collab Diamond and Emma!

    1. Thank you!
I think it’d still be fun to do. I didn’t really think I’d like Little Women, and I did! Even if you dislike your friend’s book, it’d be interesting to discuss.

    1. Yeah! I recommend all the ones I’ve read, which is like, all but 3 of these. And judging from my friend Emma’s tastes, I’m guessing the other three are awesome too! Let me know if you end up reading and liking any of these!

  5. Nice! I’ve read quite a few of the books (I’m reading the 3rd hunger games, I’ve read counting by 7’s, Little Women, and I’ve obsessed over Harry Potter), and this idea is really cool.

I’ve read Little Women and I really loved the story! Although… I think I’ve read the abridged version 😂 so I missed a lot lol. I’d like to read the full version at some point!
I’d have fun doing a book collab like this with you at some point, Diamond! Our reading tastes are VERY different 😂 so it could be interesting? Or torturous 😉🤪
Also if you ever start a blog Emma, I’ll follow you! 😄💕💕 hehe (just a wee bit of encouragement there!)
