Reading Books I’ll Hate?

Hello, and welcome back to IH12OP! Today I have a fun reading post planned for you all!

I sometimes like to read books that I might not like. Why? Well, I don’t want to just take someone’s opinion. Maybe I’ll like a book everyone hates, or maybe I’ll hate something everyone likes! We’re all different people with different tastes, so I like to try things out for myself.

Plus, it makes an interesting post.

Anyway, for this post I chose and read 3 books that I didn’t think I’d like. I’m really happy I did it, even if I didn’t enjoy everything. But I don’t want to spoil the post for you! You get to find out for yourself what I liked and didn’t like.

The first book I chose for this post was The Heir by Kiera Cass. I really enjoyed The Selection series, and while this is technically a part of the same series, it’s more of a spin-off. I have honestly heard such bad reviews about it and it seems that people didn’t really like the book. But, now I have a library card! (remember when I made a whole post on how I don’t use the library?) Anyway, if I don’t have to buy a book before I read it, turns out I’m much more likely to give it a shot. Plus, it fits rather well with the theme of this post. 

So no, I don’t particularly think I will like this book. But you never know until you try!

I also have been in a sort of reading slump lately. The Selection series is a bit lighter than the stuff I normally read though, so perhaps changing up the genres will help. (though, it is still fantasy…)

Okay, checking in! I’m about a third of the way in, so a lot could still change. I’m really enjoying this so far! The Selection series is always a quick read and this one is no different. I will keep you guys updated with my thoughts.

So, it’s the next day and I have a lot of thoughts…

Why haven’t I read this book sooner? It has most of the elements I loved about The Selection, and now I eagerly await finding out who Eadlyn will end up with. Yes, she is an irritating character at times, but overall I like her. She’s got spunk.

I ended up buying the book, along with its finale. I definitely don’t regret reading this book. Honestly, it’s been a while since I’ve loved a book this much! I’m not giving it a 5-star rating, but it is very close with a 4.5.

The next book I chose for this is Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins. I enjoyed The Hunger Games quite a bit, but I’ve heard some bad reviews for this one. I also don’t normally like prequels, so I don’t think I’m going to hate this book, but I’m not anticipating it turning into a new favorite or anything.

I’ve started the book, and yeah, I feel kinda meh about it. But, I’m only two chapters in, so anything could happen!

Okay, I’m about a third of the way through this book. I’m liking it so far, but not as much as the original series. I keep thinking the games should have started by now! But it’s still very action-packed and I’m very intrigued. If I had to guess, I’d say this book is probably 3 stars?

I have now finished the book. I really would say I enjoyed it, though yes, it was 3 stars. I don’t feel that it was entirely necessary, but I didn’t hate it. I’m very glad I read it, but it doesn’t compare to the original trilogy.

Okay, the final book for this post is Divergent by Veronica Roth. I don’t necessarily think I’ll dislike this one, but I just have heard a lot of mixed reviews? I feel like I’ll probably like it, but then again, I don’t think it will be a new favorite or anything. It’s a very popular book, and I kind of wish I’d read it already!

Okay, I’m almost done with this book. It’s a bit better than I thought it’d be, but it’s still not a huge favorite for me? I feel like it will be a 3 star, but I suppose if the ending is really good it could be 4. I’ll update y’all when I finish it!

Okay I enjoyed this! I do think it was 3 stars, but I would like to continue in the series. It’s a fairly typical YA dystopian, and the romance doesn’t have a lot of development. But I suppose I did like the plot well enough.

I’m very glad I did this post! I don’t regret reading any of these books, and I even ended up loving one! I have some more books I don’t know if I’ll like, so I think I’ll do this again! Assuming you guys like it, that is.
