Hey guys!
Life has been crazy hectic lately, so I figured…why not do another Trope Talks? They’re fairly quick and easy posts for me to write.
Today’s episode is on Found Family. I honestly don’t recall who came up with this one, and I can’t be bothered to check. Sorry!
Found Family
This is honestly my favorite trope…it’s where a group of usually unlikely people band together and form familial bonds. It’s present in all of my favorite stories.
Is this trope bad?
NO!
Seriously…I was just raving about this trope for a reason. I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone complain about this trope…it’s awesome.
Sadly, there are a lot of people in the world who for whatever reason, aren’t satisfied with the biological family they have. Regardless of the reasons behind that, this trope proves to those people that family is more than just blood.

How can we spice this up?
Honestly…we could stand to use this trope more often. I mean…doesn’t every story need a found family trope?
Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating a little bit. I do have a couple things about this trope that I wouldn’t mind seeing done differently.
The family unit doesn’t split up at the end.
Maybe I’m just adding this one due to pettiness. But it just breaks my heart when I come to care about characters as a group only for them to split up! No one wants to read a multi-book series about characters growing close to one another only for those characters to forget about each other in the end.
No one falls in love.
*rolls eyes* Why is that one of the girls and one of the guys always end up getting together in found family instances? I mean it can work sometimes, but it’s not necessary for this trope.
Found Family occurs between a biological family.
I’ve seen this a couple times and there’s just something about it! It can be really special to read about family members reconnecting.

What are your thoughts? Do you like this trope? How would you like to see it done?

Okay I’ve never really understand what this trope was, and this really cleared up some things. Thanks, diamond😂♥️
I haven’t read any books with this trope, but i want to! Any recommendations??

The first thing that comes to mind is The Lunar Chronicles. It’s a really fun series and I bet you’d like it!
