Hello friends!
Today’s national fairytale day!
In honor of Fairytale day, Merie and I decided to do this fairytale tag! I’m really excited to share it with you all! I’m going to answer the questions myself, but I’ll also include a blank copy for you all to copy the questions and take this tag for yourself!
(We’d talked about having this up about a week ago to give you all time to do the tag before Fairytale day, but things happened and we couldn’t. Well, more like I couldn’t. I’ve been really busy…I think I may have to take a blogging hiatus soon…or at least cut back a bit. Anyway, I’m here now! Enjoy the tag!)
(also, WordPress has been giving me a lot of issues making this post, so WordPress can share the blame for this post being late. :))
Rules:
– thank the blogger who tagged you
– use the featured graphic (optional)
– answer the following 12 questions about books you have read
– tag as many bloggers as you like!
Cinderella—a book that changed your life

Thinking of Cinderella type books, I’m actually going to say Cinder! That’s a fun little coincidence. Anyway, Cinder by Marissa Meyer actually got me into reading. I want to reread it someday, but I’m honestly a little scared it won’t hold up to my expectations.
Sleeping Beauty—a book that took you forever to finish

It literally took me like two months to read Jane Eyre…but it was worth it. Classic books always take a bit more brain power from me, but I always feel better after reading them. Like, there’s a reason a book from the 1800s is still popular today.
A Thousand and One Nights—a book you couldn’t stop reading

Y’know, I was kind of worried that the KOTLC books had lost their appeal to me. I mean, even though this series is Middle-Grade, I did enjoy them as a teenager. But it’s been three years since I first read the books…and a lot has happened in those three years. I’ve read a lot of other good books, so I was hesitant for Stellarlune. Not to mention the fact that it’s over 700 pages…
But I gave it a try anyway and I found that I just couldn’t put it down! I think I read it over the course of three days today. I’m super excited for the next book!
Little Red Riding Hood—a book you recently read in an unfamiliar genre

I’m not usually one for contemporary, especially YA contemporary. But Kelloggs had a free book offer and this was one of the options…and y’all know I can never pass up a good book. So I tried 11 Paper Hearts by Kelsey Hartwell. I read it around Valentine’s Day, since it takes place around Valentine’s. There are definitely parts of this book I wasn’t super fond of, and some parts I’m just not sure what I think, but overall, I think I liked it!
The Wild Swans—a book with your favorite sibling relationships

The sisterly relationship in Caraval in Stephanie Garber is probably one of my favorites! I just love this book so much! Here’s another one I want to reread, but I’m worried it won’t hold up to my expectations.
Snow White—a book filled with beautiful prose
As much as I want to pick another of Garber’s works, I’ll choose another for the sake of variety.

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve read Sorcery of Thorns, and as such I’v
Rapunzel – a book you procrastinated on reading after buying

I don’t know why it took me so long to read An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir, but I should have read it sooner! It was a really great fantasy!
The Little Mermaid – a book that took you on a magical journey

This is 100% one of my favorite books. I just started reading it one day and I had to read it in one setting. I highly recommend it if you haven’t read it yet!
The Frog Prince – a book you’d like to turn into a frog because you hated it so much

I mean, the tag question is a bit harsh. I don’t actually want to turn this book into a frog, but it definitely did not live up to my expectations. I didn’t feel interested at all in the mystery…which is a need for me with mystery books!
Peter Pan – a book that reminds you of your childhood

This is more of a series, but the Twisted Tales series by authors such as Liz Braswell, Elizabeth Lim, Jen Calonita, and Farrah Rochon! I love Disney movies and I watched so many within my childhood. Every time I crack open a Twisted Tale, the feeling of nostalgia fills me.
The Goose Girl – a book that you had low expectations for, but ended up loving

I was honestly kind of scared to go into A Thousand Heartbeats by Kiera Cass. I’ve really enjoyed a few of her books, but her latest series, The Betrothed, was not something I enjoyed. So I got A Thousand Heartbeats from the library and tentatively started reading it. It was a slow start, but I loved this book! I now realize that I love reading enemies-to-lovers in fantasy, and I want to read more like this.
Hansel and Gretel – a book that made you hungry

I wanted to travel to Italy and try some gelato after reading Love & Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch!

Aw, that was really fun to read! I loved your takes on all of those books, although I hadn’t read some of them.
My favorite fairytale…hmm…I’ve always been perplexed and intrigued by the Twelve Dancing Princesses, so that would probably be my favorite!

Great post, Diamond! It was really fun to read.
An Ember in the Ashes is an amazing book, and Love and Gelato made me hungry as well. I’ve never had gelato, but it sounds delicious! I haven’t read any other books you mentioned, but many of them are on my TBR.
Thanks for tagging me! I will try to get around to doing the tag soon, because it looks like lots of fun!

I so enjoyed doing this with you and reading your answers! Now that you mention it, Cinder changed my life too–I hadn’t even heard of fairytale retellings before I discovered it (though it wasn’t the first one I read; I held off on it for a while xD).
Also, now I’m curious to hear your thoughts on KotLC. I haven’t read beyond Flashback, but still.

I’m glad! I really enjoyed doing this too!
That’s really cool! Cinder is such a special book for me, and that’s cool that it’s special for you too. ❤
That's fair. I think that the love triangle business gets a little exhausting, but I think with Stellarlune that's finally over. *phew* I also feel like things start making a bit more sense and the balance of who's going to win the war (so to speak) changes in book 8.5. If you care to continue, I'd recommend it, but also the books are very long if you aren't that into it soooo, yeah.
